LOS ANGELES — Customs and Border Protection flagged 214 entries for review in the first week of the expanded Section 301 exclusion process, according to figures shared with brokers at a Los Angeles trade briefing on Wednesday.
Holds under the new subheadings are averaging nine days. Brokers filing on behalf of small importers say the practical effect is that goods land before the classification question is settled, and demurrage starts running regardless.
CSMS 66214881 extends the comment window to 28 August. Filers who have taken a hold should document the classification basis now rather than after the protest deadline.
